Standard Thickness vs. Built-Up.
"Built-up" simply refers to how thick your countertop edge looks from the side. It does NOT change the look of the top of your counter — only the visible front edge.
One Layer of Stone
The edge is carved straight out of a single slab. The thickness you see on the front of the counter is the actual thickness of the stone (usually 3CM ≈ 1¼", or 2CM ≈ ¾").
- Edge thickness: same as your slab
- Cost: lower — no extra labor or material
- Best for: most kitchens and baths; modern, clean looks
Two Layers Bonded Together
We glue a second strip of the same stone underneath the front edge, then shape both layers as one. From above, the counter looks identical — but the visible edge is now twice as thick, making it look heavier and more luxurious.
- Edge thickness: doubled
- Cost: higher — extra stone, cutting, gluing and polishing
- Best for: dramatic profiles (Ogee Bullnose, DuPont), waterfall islands, high-end builds
